By applying the principals of design programming, create one cohesive design packet for the client profile you were assigned. Create design solutions for the fixed 965 sq. ft. blank floor plan with predetermined exterior doorways, plumbing & windows. Explain to the clients the advantages of the plan circulation and how the spaces will function as well as how the furniture and finish selections will support their lifestyle while also being aesthetically pleasing. Include all of the schematic and design development work you produced as well as the materials presentation and concept boards.

By applying traditional drawing practices, please assemble a full architectural/interior presentation drawing set, by hand, of a small public space of your choosing. Drawing set should be done professionally and include the following: Drafted & Rendered Floor Plan, Drafted & Rendered Reflected Ceiling Plan, 4 Drafted & Rendered Interior Elevations, and 1 Drafted Section Detail. All plans and elevations to be drawn to same scale. All drawings should include title block. All linework to be done in ink and any other effects to add depth, colour, or texture can be added.

Throughout the Basic Drafting term, we were assigned weekly exercises in order to apply the knowledge in real life & explore the methods we were being taught. Although not perfect, I figured I would share my learning process through some of these exercises. Here you will find some examples of the type of material we were learning & putting into practice.

Through the use of drawing, you will work to conceptualize and represent spatial ideas. These exercises are meant to demonstrate & practice the mechanics of visual representation, the use of drawing and two-dimensional media to observe, document, and reimagine interior spaces — you will use a variety of media, including graphite, pen, colored pencils, and markers, with the intention of visually representing design concepts and ideas through the use of freehand drawing.

Through the course of this term, you will complete a cohesive design proposal package. The successful residential designer must be sensitive to the people, particularly the client. This mock proposal will explore the possibilities of architectural design of interior space for the private home of a real life person of your choosing — It could be a content creator, an influencer, another designer…the point of choosing a real person is to stress the importance of the client. Research & observation will be key to meeting your clients needs. Successful projects depend on an understanding of all aspects of the project, floor plan, materials, clients, finance, budget, and contractors. Display an understanding for the core elements of design: scale, proportion, balance, ambiance, spatial relationships, the effect and relationship of color, texture and materials in addition to the creation of viable solutions to functional and decorative requirements.

Through application of commercial design principals and rules, you will provide a cohesive design proposal to a commercial client of your choosing. Pick a commercial space and develop a concept to establish your joint idea into a coherent interior space. Explore issues of spatial layout and significance, materials and finishes, lighting, and furniture. At the end of the term, you will present your final projects, complete with scaled AutoCAD drawings, rendered drawings and a materials board to represent the space in two and three dimensions. Your presentation should be both strongly conceptual and beautifully represented and include a full plan, major furnishings and materials, and elevations and/or perspectives.

Using your understanding of the basic concepts of CAD drafting, take a project from sketch development and produce a professional design project from scratch — creating a concept design set for the interior design of an apartment. By the end of this class you will have gained the necessary knowledge to produce a presentation set of drawings that illustrate your vision for a space. You are to design this apartment template within these perimeters: the exterior wall, door, and windows must remain, the location of the bathroom and kitchen areas will also stay in the general area but not necessarily the fixture layouts. Please produce a floor plan, RCP and develop 3 interior elevations — including proper layers & line-weights.
